XXIV annual symposium of the Dutch Thyroid Research Foundation

The Dutch Thyroid Research Foundation cordially invites you to the 24th edition of its annual symposium, which will take place on June 12 2020 at the Trippenhuis in Amsterdam. International and Dutch experts will highlight important recent developments in basic and clinical thyroidology.

The symposium will start with a session on cellular thyroid hormone signaling. Prof. Eric Fliers (Amsterdam UMC) will introduce the session by questioning the usefulness of plasma thyroid hormone measurements, followed by a presentation of Prof. Antonio Bianco (University of Chicago) who will discuss basic and translational implications of the type 2 deiodinase polymorphism. Dr. Frederic Flamant (Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de Lyon) will present recent results on the metabolomic profiling of body fluids in mouse models as a read out of thyroid function, followed by a lecture of Dr. Marco Medici (RadboudUMC, Nijmegen) about the recently started T3-4-Hypo trial. Prof. Yolanda de Rijke (ErasmusMC, Rotterdam) will conclude the morning session with a presentation on how to measure a thyroid hormone metabolic profile in serum.

After lunch, the focus will shift to new aspects of thyroid hormone transporters presented by Nilhan Gunhanlar and Ferdy van Geest (both ErasmusMC, Rotterdam). Prof. Anja Eckstein (University Essen, Germany) will discuss novel clinical insights in Graves’ disease and Dr. Wim Dik (ErasmusMC, Rotterdam) will end the day with a presentation about the basic aspects of Graves’ disease. Just before and immediately after the tea break we will have four short presentations given by PhD students on thyroid hormone research being performed at different labs.
