“One of my personal highlights will be Symposium 23 – Novel targets in diabesity about promising new pharmaceutical options to treat obesity and its metabolic consequences as type 2 diabetes. Adipose tissue is an important endocrine organ with numerous regulatory functions, which are often disturbed in obesity. As nowadays so many people worldwide suffer from obesity or “sick fat disease”, and lifestyle interventions are not always effective, it is of paramount importance to develop better therapies as add-on to a healthy lifestyle.”

“One of my favourite session of e-ECE2021 is “Endocrine Connections with/to/and COVID-19” because these contributions clearly illustrate how the recent pandemia impacts on several aspects of the endocrine system and vice versa how both frequent and rare clinical endocrine conditions result in elevated morbidity/mortality. On the other hand, research presentations in this session demonstrate impressive new developments bidirectionally linking bench with bedside in the multidisciplinary endocrine arena.”

In this symposium Jiten Vora will address novel targets of SGLT2 inhibitors, Martin Jastroch will speak about harnessing brown adipose tissue function as an innovative obesity treatment strategy and Peter Kühnen will present exciting new data on a Melanocortin-4 Receptor agonist as treatment for genetic obesity including proopiomelanocortin deficiency.”
